Firstly recognise that the only person who has the power to make you feel bad is you. That’s really crucial to grasp because you are the only power in your life and you are in control. When you start to recognise that, you then start realising that you are in the drivers seat of life. So if you do encounter negative people (and for what its worth – its also worth noting some people in life are really happy being unhappy and criticising and complaining – and feel that’s their life purpose) you are not at the impact of them. Most times, when I encounter negative people I find usually they want to be validated in some ways, so I will often drop comments into the conversation like “yes you are right” or “I wish I was more like you in that respects” and it is amazing how that acknowledgment seems to shift things rapidly for me and them.
