It's impossible to not be aware of it, its not like your body when you don't look in the mirror. I wish it was much deeper and clearer, I dislike the tone and the difficulty I have pronouncing words or talking clearly. It's even worse when I'm talking to a guy with a deeper voice, I feel like a kid and the contrast is huge.
So, who told you you're voice needs to sound s certain way? What's happening is you're believing what someone else told you about how your voice is "supposed" to sound. You can show yourself that this is true by thinking about exactly when you decided you didn't like your voice. You haven't hated it your whole life.
You can always get a voice coach and /or take up singing, so that you can exercise your vocal cords and increase your range. I am a natural baritone, but through singing classes I took, I sang from what is known as Second Bass (The level just above the lowest voice) to First Tenor. You can do that as well. Whatever you do in that direction, decide there is nothing "wrong" with your voice, because there definitely isn't anything "wrong" with it. It's yours and it is unique in all the world. =)
