I completely freaked out and called my brother-in-law in Ohio. (I'm in Florida)
He thinks that I got my c drive too full.
Luckily he's coming to Florida for a visit starting Saturday.
He says there's a 90% chance I can get it back--but I'm still worried.
I have a lot of irreplaceable stuff on it.
I want that stuff back.
A part of me thinks that maybe this will ultimately end up being a good thing. Maybe this will be a chance for me to get my computer organized like I've been wanting to.
I did back up some stuff. But I wish I'd backed up so much more.
By the way--I am typing this on hubby's computer! (Thank God we have two!!!!!!!)
I do feel a little peace--but I don't want it to be just wishful thinking.
Now that's just odd.....tech support X2 from Ohio.........ok...as long as it boots up and runs...there's a good chance you can save everything. I might need a serious defragment, but it should still be salvageable. I would really need to know what exactly that it's doing to be able to help you more on this. As long as it's not a virus, you should be ok. If the computer has a CD/DVD Burner in it, I highly recommend getting it going just to save your stuff and then start working on it. You can PM message me if you want to, I'll be here checking on update for a little bit and I'll see what I can do to help you out here :)
It wants to know what mode to boot up in. (and I've tried several)
The screen looks very odd.
Then it usually looks similar to what it does when it looks for errors. (like if the electricity went down--and you couldn't bring it down correctly) And then once that's done--the screen looks very strange--and then goes blank.
The hard drive's light is still on--and seems fine--but the screen is a complete blank.
I have a wireless keyboard and mouse--and I thought it was because the batteries had died. I kept putting different batteries in it--and I don't "connect" it enough to remember how to do it. And I was hoping it was that.
I just hope the files aren't corrupted.
I had no idea that it would do this if I didn't delete enough files!!!
Anyway--thanks for your offer of help--I really appreciate it!!!!!
I am actually from around Lorain and Cleveland and here lately Toledo :)
As for Mr/Ms/Mrs Puter.......this might be your only option....this is a little invasive but it can be done. The best thing to do is to take the Hard Drive out of the one thats not running right. You can temporarily add it as a secondary on another machine. Usually you can still access all the files on it even if you don't use it to boot an operating system. From there, you can still backup all of the files to CD/DVD. This usually works and I hope that it does for you. It almost sounds like the problem might be memory in the machine going bad and not the hard drive itself. It could be a video card or several other things. Normally, even if you fill a hard drive up, it will still run ok. Hope that this helps ya out!!
Okay--so maybe I could do that from my husband's computer? (it's real close by LOL)
My brother-in-law (his name is Paul by the way--LOL--so I'll stop referring to him as my brother-in-law) said something about trying to get it to boot from floppies. And then deleting stuff until it boots normally. Or something like that.
Morning Christine,
When I get ALL worked up and doubtfull of an out come, I repeat a saying that has actually helped me remain sane..."WORRYING IS LIKE PRYING TO FAIL" I have it on my fridge and I use it contantly. It immediately reminds me that I am giving too much thought to the problem and it re-focusses me to the solution I would really choose to intend. I hope this works for you...It has served miracles to me.
Hope the rest of your life ios the best of your life. Blessings.
Lollybucks : )
AWSOME CHRISTINE...The Universe provided you with your miracle GOOD FOR YOU! Blessing and keep on doing what your doing cause it's working. : ) Blessings and love...Lollybucks
Thats really great!! Glad to hear this one had a happy ending!! Just a tip for doing backups....make the original CD/DVD's...and then make of copy of them, put it in a case, and file it in a drawer!! Trust me on that one :) Good luck with comp!!
