One of the things that stops us from achieving our goals is the fact that we forget about them. That burning desire to reach them becomes a smouldering coal, which is snuffed out by the busyness and challenges of life. We all know the saying, "Out of sight, out of mind".
Here's one that applies to goals: "Out of mind, out of reach". One of the keys to help you reach your goals is to keep thinking about them. This will motivate you to work towards them. When you are relaxing or having a tea break, think about that most important goal that you have. Think about it right now...
What one goal would you like to achieve in the next 5 years? A goal that really fires you up? A goal that gets you excited about life?
Take time regularly, to visualize and think about achieving your goals. Imagine how great you will feel when you have accomplished them. Imagine how wonderful that: holiday, new car, new home, position in your company, marriage, successful business will be.
Dream a little, and be inspired by your dreams.

Be all you can be.
Yeah, get all juiced up about it and revel in the goal.
When we advise people to "let it go..." it's because some thoughts of lack may be mixed in there.
Hold the positive thoughts for as long as possible and for as long as it feels good. When the negative side creeps in, send the positive desire off into the Universe like a red balloon, and STOP adding resistance to the mix.
Your premise is diametrically opposed to everything I've read and experienced concerning LOA. In order to be successful we must release our desires to the universe, and not constantly be consumed with trying to manifest it. My understanding of LOA is that our job is to allow.
I wouldn't say diametrically opposedI This isn't a case of either/or. I see it as both/and.
Thinking about the desired object is what is creative. Introducing resistance in the form of negative thought is not.
We allow the creation to be manifest by NOT hindering it with resistance.
Pumping positive, life giving thought in the direction we intend to create is very creative.
I guess I can only speak from my own experience, and I have rarely if ever experienced manifestation while still in the thinking desiring stage. It's only when I've relaxed and accepted it as a done deal that doesn't require anymore input on my part that things manifest. You may experience something else.

Ironically, I had forgotten all about this technique or about the fact that I had written this reply, and it's very handy that I have just refound it. Better to do all three steps when you are in a calm and relaxed disposition, so maybe do the first when you awaken, the second when you are resting after lunch, and the third before you go to bed each night. Tick off the days on a calendar, to keep yourself in check and make sure that you are consistent with your practice.
