So much ...
Always on Aug. 24, I sit back and reflect quite a bit. See, back in 1999, I was on the operating table for 13 hours getting a brain tumor removed. They said I was going to recover, and I did, but not before getting a case of meningitis and infections which led to me almost not being here today. Thankfully, I made it, and am stronger than ever. Not 100 %, but 100% for me. :) I know you guys have heard me tell this story before, but I just have to say it again. Before then, my mother was battling cancer and had a bone marrow / stem cell transplant, which she survived. It was a true, true battle for my family and this tumor was just another blow. We had had other medical issues on top of this, like my dad's cardiac problems, but those were well under control.
Through it all, though, we had the love and support of many friends and family, some friends who ARE pretty much "family" in my book. When I was in the hospital, I had so many people visiting me and bringing me flowers, stuffed animals, etc., that it was almost like a party.
Since 1999, things didn't get easier (Mom had another cancer battle, which she sadly lost) but the support never waned. I'm reminded constantly of my support system daily, especially on things like PI and Facebook, which I am very thankful for since I got to reconnect with my long-lost pals.
Honestly, I don't know how I got through things in life without everyone. That includes all of YOU. :) Everyone in my life has given me laughs, smiles, shoulders to cry on, listened to me flip out, whatever.
So if you get the chance, step back and REALLY be thankful for who you have in your life. They're there for a good reason. It may not be apparent now, but it will be.

Whoa. This was powerful, Leeanne. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I've had my own serious health challenges, when I was far too young to have them, but I came through them nicely as well, with lots of support and great doctors! I am glad you made it, and know that we are always here for you!
