Why did you get up this morning?
I'd like to be able to hear everyone's answer to that question - really! The reason it is so important is because one of the essential ingredients to a long and happy life is having a purpose to be alive.
This may seem obvious or irrelevant. It is easy to just be so caught up in surviving the day and all its demands that something like a purpose can feel like a luxury. Yet study after study shows when people have a purpose they live better, healthier and happier lives.
We all have the stock answer ready - go to work, make money so my family can eat or following a dream. But what is your soul purpose? What purpose gives you passion or hope or a fire? What purpose do you hold that inspires you to move mountains?
I have always envied the people who seemed to have a clear and obvious purpose that guided their lives. They just knew. I never thought I did. I seemed to be in a constant state of moving and searching unable to lock on to a concrete and worthy purpose in the world.
Often we define a valid purpose as something that is grand and powerful and obvious. I will be a superstar or successful businessperson or a builder of cities. What is often built into that kind of purpose is the idea we need the world to acknowledge our purpose and we need validation when we feel we have succeeded. The bigger the parade or prize the better.
But what if your purpose isn't exciting or obvious or even visible to anyone but you? Would it still hold value in your eyes? Would you still feel a passion to fulfill it? What if there was never a parade or a prize when you achieved your goal? Would you still feel joyful? Or would there be a let down after all that hard work and no one even knows?
I can't give you your answers but this idea did help me find mine. A little hindsight into my own life's journey has made it pretty clear what my driving purpose has been all along. As you look back over your own life, what do you see as the purpose that has been driving you?

I woke up today because today is the day I write that one song that really touches somebody. It's the song that you remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard it for the first time.
That's the song I will write and that is why I woke up.

I woke up early this morning because the sun was shining brightly into my eyes. I jumped out of bed full of energy, feeling charged and ready to make a difference in someones life today.

You go Phil! I was trying to write a song today also, but mostly for fun. :)
I woke up because I needed to care for my beautiful children and because I want to learn and grow and spread love and peace! (How corny is that?!) :)
I Imagine all of us are here to make a difference in someone's life and it brings me such comfort and joy to know how many loving people there are on the site and that we come from all over the world!

Not corny at all, its inspiring, and there should be more people in the world wanting to do just that.
You are a special person and you have the power to make the biggest impact on your childrens lives and to be able to teach them the same morals and values that you have.

I got up to go to school. I'm so excited about it! Just started a new project and have never been more enthusiastic!

i got up as I get up every morning folding my quilt as i get up.
give Cedar his Glucosame Sulfate pills and doggy cookies for both my dogs.
I-Eha is the one who usualy helps me to get out of my lazyboy bed.
i go to the powder room both dog following and help me to get out of there for more doggy cookies and hugs.
Dogs GOT to go out at 9:30 so not to bark at people going to work.
Lay back down take pain, heart, diabetes and depression meds. Then rest for a bit waiting for them to take hold.
Fix eat breakfast then take medication for my kneejoints that MUST be taken with a lot of food.
Get undressed of pjs into light work cloths and off to the guppy room intending to just feed and leave.
This all up in my apartment takes about a 1/2 hour.
Then when I get in the basement in my guppy room I get lost in it and before I know it hours have passed.

i have fish keeping down to a science now no longer a hobby. I dont have a thing to sell or give away this year. But the tanks are up and babys are growing. very very few de-aths and i found where a mouse has been scooping up fishing sleeping in a stuper to eat. I havent cault the mouse but I fixed it so it can't catch the sleeping baby guppys.
all is good.
