On Wednesday night, I took my daughters into Vail village with me to watch Lindsey Vonn race in the Women's Olympic Downhill race. She is from Vail, so they had it on a huge screen in a public square and a large crowd of locals and tourists gathered to watch and celebrate her victory. The girls had such a fun time...nothing like a picnic at 7:30 at night, outdoors in the middle of winter in a ski town on a school night to change up their energy and share a fun moment for somebody else while making it an amazing memory for ourselves!
Continually sharing positive and fun moments with them outdoors regardless of the elements is helping them to become little people who are not intimidated or controlled by forces completely outside their influence. I wish I could say I always intended this result...but it started out as more of an observation than a plan. Now, part of my parenting "philosophy" is to help them to become people who can accept what is around them and find joy and opportunity in any setting. To find and create their own happiness without looking negatively upon conditions like the weather...at least to a certain extent.
Oh yeah....and the Mexican food and hot coco, while and odd combination, was a great way to start our night. ha ha ha.
