I have learned the importance of having the attitude of gratitude. Every day when I get up, I say "thank you" for all I have in my life.
Even back when I lived in the shelter for battered women, I was grateful not only to have my life, but to have taken it back. I learned from not only the councilors, but from the survivors.
We forget that we are our own entity, not someone else’s. Some of the women sadly went back to the abusers, but most did not. Most moved on and hopefully learned from their experience and made the changes in themselves so as not to attract another abuser into their lives.
So today, my compliment is to all the women (and men) out there who have stood up for themselves, who took their lives back and survived. And I hope by my words, it can be of help, support and inspiration for those who need to take that one step closer to their freedom.
