The outpouring of support for my Dad and my family has been so overwhelming, that I can't keep up with individual replies to all of you wonderful and generous souls!!
I will post any progress reports, here in this note, as I know what is happening--that way you can all get the same details in the same place! ;-)
4/28/07--Monday: FINALLY got the call through to talk to my Dad!! He is in good spirits but scared--understandably. He had a long talk with the docs, today, in which he was shown exactly where the blockages were, and the options open to him--which were stents or bypass surgery. It turns out that, where the blockages are, trying to insert stents would be a VERY risky procedure--close together at right angles to each other. Soooo, he will be having the bypass surgery, after all.
The date hasn't been set--Dad is hoping it will be by Wednesday. After surgery, he will be in the hospital for 10 days, and if all is well he will then be sent to a "rehabilitation spa" for three months--all paid for! Medicine in Germany is socialized--EVERYONE pays for insurance at the rate of ~5% of their income--drugs are included. It seems that, if this was going to happen to my Dad, it happened at the right time, and in the right place--they were preparing to move back to the states because his retirment checks in American Dollars are shrinking significantly! The doc also said that if my Dad had gotten on a plane with the blockages he has, that he probably wouldn't have survived the flight!
As always, THANK YOU , THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the prayers and healing you continue to send his way--he is very grateful and amazed at the outpouring!
Will update when I know more!
