The polls show that the presidential race is still fairly close and no one can really predict the outcome. This is amazing to me. I’m not a Democrat or Republican; I wish the Green Party had a chance to take over.
However there is a clear choice and its not really about the individuals that are running, it’s about our current crisis situation.
Do you remember when the primaries just started, the Bush Administration’s approval ratings were at an all time low. A large majority of Americans disapproved of the Iraq war and recession was a major concern. If the elections were held then the Democrats would have won in a landslide. No one thought the Republican Party had a chance. Many people were certain; Hilliary Clinton would surely be our next president.
Fast forward to today and we now know how badly the Bush Administration and the Republican Party’s agenda have really been. Financial meltdown, no credit, high unemployment, mortgage foreclosures, recession/depression are all a reality. It seems de-regulation, lobbyist control, Wall Street gambling and trickle down economics hasn’t worked so well. When you add a dysfunctional healthcare system, disregard for the environment, loss of respect and confidence from the majority of members of the United Nations, it has been a monumental disaster.
Now when you consider how we have lost civil freedoms from their Patriots Act, the firing of federal judges who wouldn’t be their yes men, human rights violations of prisoners and you have a regime not to unlike those that we are supposed to fear. The conservative, right wing, Christian, fundamentalist, administration is similar to the extreme religious fundamentalist government in Iran. They both want to push their will on us and the rest of the world and think nothing of dropping tons of bombs on anyone they choose.
So the Republican Party who supported this fascist agenda based on fear and greed deserves to be slapped down hard.
The Republicans certainly couldn’t run on their record for the last eight years, so they had to resort to mud slinging and character assassinations on Barack Obama. Let’s not let their campaign chicanery obscure what’s really at stake.
If we clearly recall what has happened in the last eight years and realize the crisis that we now are in is primarily due of the policies of the Republican, Bush Administration, the choice is clear.
It should be a landslide victory for the Democrats on November fourth.
