If Mothers were paid a salary for rearing children, there would be a huge shift in the Workplace and employers would find immediate benefits.
At the moment employers are being asked to take the slack for reluctant mothers in the workforce, to give mothers more time off to tend to their children, to have creches in the workplace, to have flexitime so that mothers can go home to their kids when sick or off school.
But if Mothers were paid a salary, there would be NO reluctant mothers in the workplace and mothers who still opt to stay in the workplace would use the parenting salary to have a husband or a nanny at home caring for the children full time and they would be in the same situation that so many Fathers in the workplace have where they are seen as very dedicated and loyal even preferred to single people.
If Mothers were paid a salary, they would have career status, they would work thier 20 years or so and when their children are reared, only then would they consider being retrained and returning to former careers or going into new careers. When they rejoin the workforce they would have 20 years of "experience", they would have stamps and insurance, they would have pension contributions.
Reluctant mothers in the workforce ruin the chances for single other women who want to advance in a careeer alongside single men, because they give a bad impression to employers that they are not dedicated to their career but that they put their "other work" ahead of the companies and need time off to attend to other "work" commitments. NO employer wants this. An employer wants and deserves a dedicated workforce.
But a Salary for Mothers would give each set of mothers and fathers the choice to be a dedicated CAREER Parent or a Career something else. THere would be no conflict of interest. A woman in the workforce would not be compromised by another job, whether or not she was a mother. In fact an employer would no longer need to know if she is a mother or not, just as it is not important to know if a male worker is a father or not. An employees place in is the office during office hours and a career mothers or career fathers place is in the home rearing children.
Wouldnt it be nice if a daytime salary were made available to all parents so that they had the choice to Stay at home and rear their own children or hire a nanny so that they could go out to other jobs ...but truely have the CHOICE.
I would hope that most families would CHOOSE to have one aprent stay at home and one go out to work, as I believe that a Parentis so much bettrer than an outsider, but where both parents feel that it is not for them, that they would be honoured in their choice and given a Highly qualified Parenting substitute in a Nanny.
