Powerful Intentions: Law of Attraction Community

Good morning all,
I really would like to know what the word "Namaste" means. I have noticed several people use it in their e-mails. Please enlighten me.

Thanks and have an abundant day,

Phil

I just know the basics of the word and its context in general.

Namaste is an Indian greeting which is said with both palms of the hands joined together. Takes its roots from Sanskrit, the ancient, and now rarely used, language.

Namaste is a composite of 2 words; "Nama" and "Te". Nama = bow and Te = You. Basically, it means, I bow to you, more in terms of respect and reverence than any other context.

One of the most beautiful words in the world!...The Very Best definition that I have found...

Namaste means…

I honor the place in you In which the entire Universe dwells,

I honor the place in you
Which is of Love, of Truth, of Light, and of Peace,

When you are in that place in you,
And I am in that place in me,
We are One.

Namaste!

Namaste is a popular Indian greeting, alot of people I know use it. There is an Indian tv show, called " Namaste America" and it is a music video show and it basically is " Hello America" There is another saying that yoga students use " OM Nama Shivya" which means " I bow to my inner self" you will hear swamis and students use that alot. Then there is " Shanti" which means peace, and that is used to end a letter or conversation.

Dear Phil

Namaste

I am Suneel from India and into spreading abundance and happiness all over.

Right from the childhood we have been taught to give respect to others what we expect to receive from anybody.
AND
NAMASTE or NAMSAKAR is the intention to bow at others humbly and to recognize them as GOD..

with very warm HUGS ( even this greeting is conveyed thru NAMASTE)
Hope this answers to your query.

Suneel, thank you for your answer. Do Indian people ever say " Om Nama Shivaya" as a greeting, or is it just us Americans in yoga centers who use it?
