Powerful Intentions: Law of Attraction Community

Hi all,
I just wanted to ask a general question.
Since EVERYTHING we feel and think is sent out to the universe and comes back to us in a form of manifestation i wanted to ask if i listen to a certain music is this putting bad vibes out there? I listen to a wide range of music and connect with it on many different levels. I sometimes listen to music that had negitive lyrics, or a certain beat with a rough sounding singer to it that makes me feel certain things. Since some of it had negitive lyrics and im listening and singing along does this mean that i am emotionally supporting it, putting it out there and bringing something relating to it into manifestation? Like something bad? I mean i am a big fan of music i listen to it everyday when i wake up and every minute i can. I listen to things that get me chilled out, hyped up, or music where people depict themselves being angry at a thing etc, what is this bringing in my life?

Love to all, Tay.

I'd say trust your emotional guidance system. If there's a positive emotion there, there's positive creation.

Yeah that's true.
I guess im just trying to be cautious because some of the songs have very graphic lyrics, which from the artist is not ment to be depicting 'positive' emotions persay.
I guess i just have to not get caught up in the vibe and just listen to it if it makes me feel good :)

I think the lyrics attract results :S. I dislike listening to lyrics that discuss infidelity (a huge fear of mine) and lyrics that talk about how down someone is. I find that I sing the songs in my head--if I'm singing it, or listening to it and my subconcious doesn't know the difference between my words and the words I listen to, then how can the universe tell the difference? They say that the LOA does not hear words of negation. It is difficult for some songs (because I LOVE the beat and sometimes they just hit the right emotional spot) but in the end, what type of life am I trying to have? Positive or negative. Your point can also apply to conversations, listening to gossip is a lower energy and how can we be a vibrational match to our desires (higher energies) when we are covered in lower frequencies? (pardon my spelling if I misspelled anything). Oooh, and movies--putting images into the mind to replay later...interesting. I'm not ready to give up all my music and films ( :S ). Oooh, unless they are keeping me from my desires? Eeek!!!! I figured they would have influence; but, could they be that powerful? Great topic! :D Thank you for it.

Oh heaps good reply, im glad you brought up the fact about gossip and feelings you are being surrounded by. Like, at school there is constant joking around, bagging people out, competition etc. Today i was trying to not be in a bad mood with anyone but i just found myself getting annoyed by people making jokes out of everything. What is one to do about that? Considering im surrounded by it everyday and i guess i sometimes slip into the same state of mind.
I guess if the song does make me feel happy whether the artist intends it to be negitive or not, it wouldnt affect me because my mind is inturpreting it differently. I just love the beat of metal and hardcore sometimes so i guess the beat is getting to me and i empathise with the singer but not nessicarily take on the emotion and make it my own [angry, angsty] emotion so as to manifest something like that.
Thanks, Smiles !

I think there are two things for me -
1) I don't ever listen to lyrics... I just don't. I'll have listened to a song for a million times, and still won't know the words. I know the tune and could hum it on key, but no words...
2) Don't worry about accidentally manifesting something.
3) The emotions that the writer of the song have put into the song may not mirror the emotions that you get out of the song.

For instance, there was a band from the 90's and I can't remember their names... but they were about 11 guys in the band, all dressed in these weird clown-industrial suits. Their music was heavy and negative BUT when I listened to this one song, it was in a slightly sped up square-dance timing. So every time I heard the song on the radio I'd do-se-do with whomever was in the room. To this day I find that song HILARIOUS and it always brings up good memories.

Or, on the other hand, the band the White Stripes - my ex was a massive fan of their first couple of albums, and while they weren't bad (and I've grown to love the band now) I can't listen to the first albums because they always remind me of my ex.

Another song that always makes me laugh and has been touted as one of the hardest songs to come out of the 'nu metal' age, the song, "I did it all for the nookie" makes me laugh out loud, because the dude rhymes "nookie" with cookie.

I think if you put your emotional weight behind something, it builds on those emotions. But repeating words when you have overriding emotions doesn't force you into thinking a certain way. I think it is the emotions that will be the guide, rather than the words of someone else. I agree with you, sometimes it is the bass line or the guitar riff that is really strong, and sometimes we move along our own dreamscape when thinking of that song/ sound. I think if that song/ sound produces positive emotions, then great. If not, THEN start looking at different music. ?

I'd suggest to have a look at Dr. Emoto's research about water crystals and see how you resonate with that.
The website below shows a few images, but am sure you can find even more if you search the web.
Considering how much water our bodies contains, I personally think Dr. Emoro has lots to offer.

Hi Goliath,

I think if you like a song, or a melody or a guitar riff and it makes you feel good or excited or even sad if you have a reason to be sad or you are trying to get in touch with some deep feeling then that is great just enjoy it.

Lyrics are a bit tougher as it is like you say getting in with a crowd of negative people and finding yourself influence by them ...then I think you dont need to ignore it just find a little antidote, something like Abrahams idea of a Pivot, something to just change whatever negativity that it brings up in. With musicians it might just be to acknowledge thier great talent or gift and then say a little prayer that what ever great pain in their lives caused them to write such negative or angry lyrics, could now be healed. I do this with bad news too, I just acknowledge that if I heard it it was because I am willing to send healing, so they get healing just cause they told their story to me.

You dont have to allow someone elses negativity to affect you, you just need to notice that it is affecting you, acknowledge it and then do something to change it. We cannot easily avoid all negative people, songs and news coverage, so it is a good idea to learn to not to fear it but to have a little safety plan and to start to see yourself as a really STRONG person that negativity just bounces off.

I sometimes imagine I am like a Zena the Warrior woman, not as a fighter but just as a strong and resiliant force (but shuuu sh...thats my little secret !)

Negative sounds definitely have a negative effect. If you listen to a lot of music with negative lyrics, that is not conducive to your spiritual growth. I feel like the way you actually described the possible downsides to it, is right on.
For people that really want to go all the way with their spiritual growth, listening to stuff that speaks of negative things and puts people down, talks about getting "f-ed up" all the time, has sexual lyrics that are shallow, or is pessimistic in any way, is not going to help you.
It's hard enough sometimes to remain tuned in to positive energy because the most of the world is not in tune with the path to enlightenment, so choosing to listen to negative stuff is not a good idea.
I will say this though, as you focus more on things like Oneness and LOA, your taste for music with crappy lyrics will start to drop away on it's own. For me, when I hear a song that I once loved in the past that has negative lyrics, my stomach just turns on it's own now.
Oh, also, it is proven that music with negative lyrics are not healthy. They have proven for example that playing classical music to plants makes them grow healthier.
And, more recently theres a very popular book called "The hidden message in water" by Emoto (it was talked about in the film what the bleep do we know) where they do actual experiments where they say negative phrases and positive phrases to water and they measure it afterwards somehow and the water with negative phrases actually has a bad reaction.
Go to your local bookstore and at least look at the Emoto book, that will answer your question and you'll see for yourself that negative sounds are not good to be around.

I agree very much with Brian.....I think that when your perspectives change and you grow spirtually - then you re-evaluate even the music you listen to.....

It so matters where the music takes you in your mind and when you've become so practiced, in this way of life, you pin-point things that probably didn't matter before - and now they do, even your choice in music......YOUR CHOICE.....

Namaste,

As usual, Awesome is right on.
I totally disagree with those on here saying that if you just like it, go with it. Why?
Aside from what I mentioned above, lyrics definitely affect mood and feelings and when you get into a sort of trance, you are HIGHLY suggestable and negative stuff does kind of sink in. Not to mention philosophically, the messages are not enlightened thinking: Usually it's either :"OH, I can't live with you"--not true, or "I don't even know you, but, you look good and I wanna screw your brains out"----kinda shallow, don't you think? or they are often glamorizing drugs or alcohol. Or at best, they are expressing how they cope with life in a very unevolved manner. None of that is helpful in lifting you up. One of the greatest obstacles to Enlightenment is, you got to break away from the mass consciousness because the masses don't care much for Enlightenment and most of that music is written from people that are not very high Vibrationally.
Simply put, do those lyrics promote Oneness, Wholeness and Joy from within?
If not, that is what you are ingesting in your system.

Not only will negative lyrics affect you, I know I've heard certain beats and conjunction of instruments that absolutely set my nerves on edge. Remember, at least twice (that I know of) the US military has used certain music to blast at people they were trying to get out of hiding (Noriega and Taliban).
