my 16 year old, Erika, goes off to college in Savannah this fall

welcome to Powerful Intentions.
I'd love to say it was mum who gave me this mindset but thats not really true. I developed this clarity just from some life experiences. Through a lot of crap I was able to take from that the contrast of what was good.
Something that i've realised recently was whenever I would see a psychologist my excuse was always "If anyone else was in this situation then they would be thinking the same way." Well now i've flipped it, "If anyone was thinking this way then they would be in this situation."
:D and that's helping me to become a better person.

I noticed a number of times where she wavered in her singing and didn't deliver. A good coach can help her develop more consistency and a willingness to "give it up," if you understand what I mean by that. A great vocalist can't "hold back" on delivery.
Where are you? And is there a first-rate University nearby? If so, check out their music department vocal school and inquire about coaching. Let me know where she lives and I'll write and inquire about a coach in your area from some of the great talent and producers around here

Also, write her favorite stars at their websites asking for advice on where to find the proper coach. you would be surprised just how willing the stars are to help someone truly seeking help developing their talent. After all, none of them made it on their own either. NONE of them. And most of them never get mail asking for sincere help like that.
It's called the Mastermind. And it really works. Jesus even talked about it... "when two or more are gathered..."
I'm getting swamped with multiple jobs at present and that is as I had imagined and planned (manifested) achieving a goal I set in January, and ahead of schedule it seems. But I must stay focused on that right now and not get sidetracked with diversions.
If she wants to play the blues, I'd tell her to go to the woodshed. Google "woodshedding" That's the only way. Play, play, play, and play some more. Play in the park. Play under the bridge. Play in the back of the bus. Does she play electric? Get a jam-man and set of headphones, or a Pignose and go sit by the railroad trax. And listen to all the greats. And steal their sh**. After you steal enough of other musicians' sh**, it becomes your sh**. But it only happens in the woodshed. And tell her, "quit looking at the fretboard." And the pick (mostly) goes up on upbeats, and down on downbeats. Seems like a no-brainer, but it's really hard to do without making an effort to do it that way. After that becomes natural, the speed and accuracy of playing will magically happen. And LISTEN. That can't be overstated. LISTEN.
