How do you deal with work-related stress?

I work in a customer service job that drains away a lot of energy from me on a daily basis. Most days I am able to get myself feeling good again by watching movies, saying affirmations, listening to uplifting music, and viewing pages like this website. There are some days (like today) when I just can't seem to get out of the funk though. What do you do when you're feeling like this? Any advice other than to quit my job?

I daily envision what my dream job looks like and I give thanks many times throughout the day for my new job. That makes it easier to deal with all the stress and b.s. that I have to put up with for the time being, but quitting my immediate job is not an option.

  • I know this post is months old and maybe my reply wont be of any use to Nicole now, but perhaps it will assist someone else.

First off, Im sorry I've been away for so very long guys. I've been practicing what I teach and using LOA, taking inspired action and actually creating what I want in life. How cool is that? ;)

And that is what I want to share Nicole. It is always a bad idea to up and quit a job you rely on unless you feel really positive about getting a new one or that you can somehow survive not having a job for a while. That was a very wise decision you made.

It's also very cool and wise of you to try and find a different way to feel about your present job. There as some really solid suggestions in the other replies. And lastly, it is awesome that you spend some time envisioning what your dream job looks like.

I use LOA every day of my life, and have for many years. I can say absolutely that it works... AND... I have watched a lot of people over the years get caught up in the thinking part of all this and not diving into the action part.

We live on a physical plane and therefore our actions are just as important as how we think and feel about something. No matter how good our thinking and feeling gets around a subject, the possibility of the perfect love, more money, a new job, etc. just dropping on our heads while we watch tv are very slim. It is the rare person on a rare subject that can make that one happen without getting physically involved.

    So here's what I suggest:

First off, take the time and put some energy into writing what your dream job looks like. Write it from first person as if it is happening right now. Make a habit of reading it out loud every day. This will increase your energy levels, help you create what you want in a new job and make a more acceptable journey through your old job.

You can post it here too if you like. Then everyone reading it can help you gather more energy around what you are trying to create. Co-creators are always a fun and powerful resource.

Once that's done, start taking little baby steps toward finding that dream job. This will help in many ways. Not only will it eventually help you find that dream job, it will also inspire you and give you the engery you need to start enjoying the job you have.

Hope is a powerful tool. Create hope for yourself by beginning to take the steps you need to get to a new place.

There is always a chicken or egg debate going on around when to take action. Many hold the belief that we should never take action until we are inspired. I believe the opposite and my experience has shown the truth of it being opposite I find that taking action is actually a way to create inspiration.

    It's worth a try right?

Good luck and have as much fun as you possibly can! We are all here with you, cheering you on. :)

    Happy Trails!

  • I love the book The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power

here is something that is very empowering

    More "gems" from Vernon

"Evern man is a king through conscious awareness of his true identity. He need not try to be anything; he only realize who he really is-- a king by birthright.

How can we start practicing this idea?

How would u feel if u had not fear? Feel like that. How would u behave toward other people if you realized their powerlessness to hurt you? Behave like that. How would you react to so-called misfortune if u saw its inability to bother u? React like that. How would you think toward yourself if u knew you were really all right? Think like that.

These are kingly states of consciousness. By living with them, you live like a king.

    or a Queen or a Goddess ;)

  •  I am doing Marketing and Sales that truly deal with so many different customers and challenge.

Here are my tips on how I get through things when I met challenge and I hope this help,

    1. Learn to LOVE your job by keep Gratitude for the good things in your job, maybe is the great environment, or the great colleagues that always help, the great benefits you have, your great salary, anything, find TEN of them and Gratitude them everyday before you sleep and the next day before your start to work.

    2. Keep saying thank you for meeting nice and friendly, understanding customers every morning when you start your day or start your job.

    3. If, there's truly something happen and it effect your mind, try your very best to find something on that particular things / customer to be gratitude, maybe as "Thank you for the challenge I am facing now and have solve. I am now learning more and I am so happy that it give me chance to be growth."

    Hope this help, Thank you

  • I realize you posted this a few months ago, but it is such a global issue that I thought I should answer anyway.

The way I deal with work related stress (and most other stresses) is by getting myself balanced and neutral through some energy modality. My favorites are EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques - otherwise known as Tapping), FasterEFT (EFT combined with NLP), and more recently, The Sedona Method.

The most important thing is to notice when you are feeling low or off and deal with it right away. Not by distracting yourself with music or "happy" activities, but by noticing and addressing the issues right then and there. Take a bathroom break and get yourself to neutral using one of these methods. If you do this consistently, you will see big changes in your life pretty quickly. You will be amazed.

If you have not heard of these techniques before, just go on YouTube. There are hundreds of videos that will walk you through these techniques for free. Many of them are very good.

  • You are more than your job. Therefore do not define yourself by what you do because when you don't.. you are nothing.

Try to think your job as a mean of income and do what you love when you finish your job.

I am in customer service related profession as well so I know how tough it is to be chirpy and smiling all the time (even on your bad days).. but back in my head I am thinking about all the  time and money I will spend to reward myself :)

Save some amount of money for your fun time. That way you will have a motivation to work rather than just paying the bills and expenses.
